GRAND BANKS EASTBAY HX 49 “FLYAWAY” 2003/2021

Flyaway
is the most attractive and best equipped Eastbay 49 on the market today.  A truly exceptional vessel.  She has been well cared for thoughout her life and currently kept under cover.  She is a show-stopper wherever she goes.  In 2021-22 she was completely renewed and upgraded under the watchful eyes of her very experienced captain and owner.  She is in better than new condition at this time.  All systems were inspected and upgraded - if needed.  A complete new electronics suite was installed.  Thousand hour service was performed on the engines and generator before it was called for, both aftercoolers were replaced proactively; all exterior teak was stripped and recoated with 18 coats of varnish; the exterior was detailed twice; the interior was updated; all canvas and isinglass was replaced; all batteries were replaced with AGM batteries; the bottom was painted with 3 coats, the deck non-skid was painted, and much more!

Remarks

In an era of Euro-styling, Flyaway is a traditional, beautifully crafted yacht with a great pedigree.

She has the desired Cat C-12 engines and is fast, maneuvers like a sports car, and is very comfortable.  She has 360 degree visibility from the helm deck and with her widely separated propellers and bow thruster is very easy to handle.  Her constant deadrise hull design by C. Raymond Hunt Design is well known for efficient non-pounding and dry running performance.  The fit and finish of the Grand Banks Eastbay is without comparison in this size and price range.  Set off by a beautiful custom color, Flyaway has always been the most admired boat in any harbor.

Caterpillar C-12 engines,  can run in either trawler mode or at high speeds, offering exceptional fuel efficiency.  Unlike earlier power packages offered (like 3196) which need to run at high RPMs to function cleanly and avoid fouling. The C-12 engines can run comfortably at near-idle speeds all day.   For example, at 1,000 RPM, in 2’ – 4’ seas, running about 10 knots,  burning about 3 gallons of diesel per hour per engine. Making almost 2 nautical miles per gallon of fuel consumed.

While at higher RPMs, she can cruise at 22 or 26 knots and achieve 30 knots plus, depending on sea conditions.  Flyaway is one-of-a-kind updated example of a proven production series yacht in excellent condition!
